Perspective Series: Finding Your Center

After spending a great deal of time on the road and away from home from 2011 to mid-2013, I took some much needed time off. I probably had the best June/July I have ever had – totally focused on family and home. This rare downtime gave me a refreshed perspective on the importance of balance, and how it profoundly impacts energy, focus and clarity.

So – I am taking this opportunity to opine a bit about how real success can only be measured and appreciated from a perspective of real balance.

Do you ever find yourself in perpetual business mode? Do you eat, sleep and breathe business? Yes… This is commonplace and often necessary (unfortunately) among small business owners. The principle that is often lost on SMB is this – restful balance helps expand your vision BEYOND your immediate circles of tedium, and beyond your daily-task-lists. Why is this important to recognize??

Customer Success = Business Success = Personal Success

It is a CIRCLE that continues to self-feed motivation and build purposeful growth.

While I have been pretty good about staying balanced, I found that having real rest and family time opened my eyes to how far short I was falling. I realized I was spending far too much time (even when I was home) sitting in front of my laptop or tablet or iPhone – responding to questions, accomplishing tasks, guest blogging – whatever… it became blurry, a grind, a JOB (ew…). It is amazing how a little yard work, a little soccer coaching and regular dates with my wife / kids has translated into super-charged productivity. #CustomerSuccess, Business Success, Personal Success

Thus the lesson. It is not DOING that makes one productive. It is Doing More through Balance of Priorities that empowers, invigorates and rewards. Believe me – you will accomplish MORE, and you will be LESS drained, if you feed yourself more BALANCE… that’s it…
